There is a moment every year when India quietly changes gear. Marigolds fill the markets. Lamps line the windowsills. Phones buzz with festive wishes.
In India, the festive season isn’t a quarter on the calendar. It’s the mood. Navratri leads into Dussehra, Diwali, Bhai Dooj, Christmas, the New Year, Eid, and many, many more.
Streets light up, weather gets chilly, and laughter fills up the air.
The usually quiet cafe at the end of the street has people lined up outside, the chai stall runs out of raw materials twice in one night, and friends who haven’t met in 6 months finally meet with gifts and sweets.
But before the above scene arrives, another story unfolds:
- Shoppers spend on gifts and scroll more than at any other time of year.
This is the best time, especially for D2C brands, to leave a mark. If you are a founder or a marketing person at a company, this blog can truly change your marketing game plan for the festive season in 2026- 2027.
Here is what this strategy is in one line:
- The winning brands plan early.
The weeks before the season are your real campaign window, and in this blog, we are going to tell you all about it. Plus, we have a free downloadable checklist to amp up your festive season.
But before we begin!
Hello,
I am Gopa Patwari, co-founder of Brand Mender, a digital marketing agency with a global client base. I am quite active on LinkedIn. I love posting about founder insights, marketing tips and team management. Feel free to connect with me.
Now, back to the blog.
Here’s a step-by-step checklist you are simply gonna love:
1. Your calendar should reflect your customers
Not every festival is the festival of your region, and this holds for all local D2D brands.
A sweet shop in Kolkata goes “sold out” on Durga Puja, while a skincare brand in Chennai may peak around Pongal. Look at where your buyers live and what they celebrate, then work backwards from each date.
➔ Chase the festivals that matter to your customers, not every date on the calendar.
- Map the festivals your customers actually celebrate
- Add Diwali, Eid, Christmas, Black Friday and regional dates where relevant
- Fix internal deadlines for creatives and ads going live
If your target audience is Pan-India, then get to work because you have a lot to plan!!
2. Decide what success looks like for your brand this season
Please don’t say our goal is to sell more! It’s a wish, not a goal, and founders who understand the world of business know it.
Sales always result from a great product, smooth inventory, and a terrific marketing plan.
- Pick one priority apart from sales:
- New customers
- Repeat orders
- Brand building
- Or whatever
- Attach a number to it. For us, focus has always been the biggest growth lever. If you are a new brand with no data, treat this season as a learning sprint and track everything.
- Choose one primary goal and a target number
- Set a festive budget and split it across channels
3. Understand the festive shopper and act accordingly
Festive buyers are not your regular buyers. The spending psychology behaves differently during this time of the year. People who never wear watches may spend 10k on them because someone in the family loves them.
Corporate gifting is a huge opportunity too, so don’t ignore it. And please, talk to your customers. Five honest conversations will teach you more than any assumption.
- Segment buyers: first-timers, repeat customers, gifters, corporates
- Ask five customers how they shop during festivals
4. Get inventory & packaging ready – faulty delivery is a bummer!
Nothing breaks festive goodwill faster than stock-outs and late deliveries.
Forecast from last year’s sales, back your bestsellers, and go easy on unproven items.
Pro Tip: Gifting raises the bar for presentation too, so festive bundles and gift-ready packaging can lift both order value and perception.
Here is a checklist for that:
- Forecast demand and stock up on bestsellers
- Create gift boxes or festive bundles
- Confirm supplier and courier timelines, with a buffer
5. Make your website smooth like butter
Most Indian shoppers browse on their phones, so a slow site kills sales.
Make UPI, cards, wallets and COD easy and test every discount code before launch, not after the first angry message.
Further:
- Test mobile speed and checkout flow
- Add a festive landing page and clear delivery dates
- Check that every discount code works as intended
6. Build an offer that leaves money in your pocket
Everyone loves discounts during festivals. The trick is standing out without wrecking your margins.
- Do your numbers first
- Then go ahead and implement your discounts, freebies, early access, Buy 1 Get 1- whatever really works for your brand
- Further, plan a teaser, a main offer and a last-chance reminder in sequence
7. Create warm content and pick your channels – go big on that!
Festive content works when it feels warm, not forced.
Let me tell you this, and yes I have said this before:
- Brand Mender’s first viral moment was a Christmas Carnival influencer campaign for a mall brand that crossed 1M+ views, and it showed us that ideas, when executed right, really do travel far.
Use regional languages where your audience prefers them, and have someone from the community review sensitive creatives so that your brand stays respectful.
Then show up where your customers are:
- Instagram and YouTube for discovery
- WhatsApp for direct offers
- Email for loyal buyers
- Micro-creators for trust
Furthermore:
- Prepare creatives and content themes in advance
- Review festival symbols and traditions for accuracy
- Choose two or three channels and focus on them
8. Prepare your team. They will be exhausted
Festive orders can burn out a team fast.
- Brief everyone; set up automated replies on delivery, returns and payments.
- Most importantly, don’t promise what your team can’t deliver. Your team’s well-being matters more than any deadline.
Once the festival ends, keep the conversation alive with thank-you messages and review requests.
- Assign clear owners and brief your support team
- Review results against your goals and note what worked
Concolusion
A festive campaign isn’t built in the week of the festival. It’s built in the weeks before, through:
- Calendars
- Inventory
- Content
- Systems and
- Clear goals
If you are in your festive chaos right now, trust me, it’s shaping you in ways you will only understand later.
Now, not all the festive tips above may apply to your brand. Choose the ones that do.
If everything I said above is becoming overwhelming, don’t worry; we have a checklist for you to download.
